Description

Barta et al developed a prognostic score for a patient with AIDS-related lymphoma (ARL) based on the International Prognostic Index (IPI). This is based on data since the introduction of rituximab. The authors are from multiple hospitals in the United States and Europe.

Patient selection: malignant lymphoma in an HIV-positive patient

Outcome: 5-year overall survival

Parameters:

(1) age-adjusted IPI (from 0 to 3)

(2) HIV score (from 0 to 6)

(3) number of extranodal sites (ENS)

total ARL-IPI =

= (2 * (age-adjusted IPI) + (HIV subscore) + (points for ENS)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 15

• The higher the score the greater the risk.
