Description

The prognostic score of Gallais et al is a modification of the prognostic score proposed at the 4th International Conference on Tetanus held at Dakar in 1975.

Parameters:

(1) incubation period: indicates the incubation period from the time of inoculation to the first symptom

(2) extension: may refer to the period of onset, which is the time from the first symptom to the generalized spasm (how used in implementation)

(3) portal of entry

(4) paroxysms

(5) rectal temperature

(6) pulse

Modifications from Dakar conference score (see Habermann, 1979):

(1) frequency of paroxysms: The Dakar score used only present or absent.

(2) portal of entry: Intramuscular injections are scored higher (2 points) reflecting the greater severity of infection.
