Description

Cao et al reported a prognostic nomogram for a patient with multiple system atrophy (MSA). This can help to identify a patient who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from West China Hospital and Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.

Patient selection: multiple system atrophy

Parameters:

(1) diagnostic delay in years

(2) total Unified Multiple System Atrophy Rating Scale (UMSARS) score

(3) orthostatic hypotension

(4) autonomic onset (vs motor)

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 265.3

• The higher the score the worse the long-term survival.

probability of 6-year overall survival =

= (-0.00003097 * ((score)^2)) - (0.008864 * (score)) + 1.938

Performance:

• The concordance index was 0.68.
