Wushou et al reported prognostic factors for hemangiopericytomas of the head and neck. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, Ninth People's Hospital and Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China.


 

Patient selection: hemangiopericytoma of the head and neck

 

Prognostic factors for worse disease-free survival from logistic regression analysis:

(1) poor pathologic differentiation

(2) tumor diameter > 5 cm

(3) nonsurgical treatment

 

Prognostic factors for worse overall survival from logistic regression analysis:

(1) poor pathologic differentiation

(2) deep tumor location

 

Prognostic factors for worse overall survival from Cox regression analysis:

(1) nonsurgical treatment

(2) deep tumor location
