Description

Scholtyssek et al identified favorable prognostic factors for a patient with a progressive high-grade glioma that is undergoing re-irradiation. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from the University Medical Center Leipzig, University Medical Center Mainz, University Medical Center Heidelberg and University Medical Center Goettingen.

Patient selection: progressive high-grade glioma undergoing re-irradiation

Favorable prognostic factors:

(1) female sex

(2) younger age (< 50 years)

(3) WHO Grade III histology (versus Grade IV glioblastoma)

(4) favorable Karnofsky performance status (>= 70%)

(5) complete resection prior to re-irradiation

Prognosis improves with the number of these prognostic factors present.
