Description

Salas et al identified prognostic factors associated with survival for a patient with a desmoid tumor. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple hospitals in France and Switzerland.

Parameters associated with a worse prognosis:

(1) age in years

(2) diameter in cm

(3) location

where:

• The prognosis for extra-abdominal tumors was worst for distal limb or buttock and was poor for proximal limb tumors.

• The presence of macroscopic residual tumor after surgery was a poor prognostic factor on univariate analysis.

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 3

• The higher the score the worse the prognosis
