Reece et al reported prognostic factors for a patient with Hodgkin's disease undergoing bone marrow transplantation and chemotherapy following a first relapse for Hodgkin's Disease. The authors are from Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia.
Patient selection: Hodgkin's Disease in first relapse, to receive therapy with chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, with age <= 60 years and major organ function >= 75% of normal
Prognostic factors:
(1) "B" symptoms at relapse (relative risk 6.3)
(2) extranodal disease at relapse (relative risk 4.7)
(3) duration of first remission less than 1 year (relative risk 5.5)
Interpretation:
• minimum number of prognostic factors: 0
• maximum number: 3
