Description

Park et al identified factors impacting healing following arthroscopic repair of a small to medium sized rotator cuff care. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in South Korea.

Patient selection: rotator cuff tear < 3 cm in length

Size of Tear

Designation

< 1 cm cm

small

1 to 2.99 cm

moderate

>= 3 cm

large

Risk factors for worse outcome from multivariate analysis:

(1) age > 69 years

(2) tear size > 2 cm

(3) fatty degeneration of the infraspinatus muscle Grade II or greater

Additional factors to consider from the univariate analysis:

(1) diabetes

(2) hypertension
