Palmerini et al identified prognostic factors for a patient with a recurrence of a synovial sarcoma. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from aggressive or a novel therapy. The authors are from the Instituto Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna, Italy.

Factors associated with worse survival in a patient with localized disease on multivariate analysis:

(1) size > 5 cm

(2) not receiving radiotherapy

 

Additional factors with poor survival in localized disease (p value > 0.05):

(1) age >= 18 years

(2) histologic subtype monophasic or poorly differentiated
