Description

Mekhail et al evaluated patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma without previous systemic therapy. The study was based on the prognostic model of Motzer et al. The authors are from the Cleveland Clinic.

Patient selection: metastatic renal cell carcinoma without previous systemic therapy

Parameters:

(1) time from diagnosis to study entry in months

(2) hemoglobin in g/dL

(3) serum LDH in U/L

(4) corrected serum calcium in mg/dL

(5) history of prior radiotherapy

(6) number of sites with metastases (liver, lung, retroperitoneal lymph nodes)

corrected calcium =

= (measured calcium) - (0.707 * ((albumin) - 3.4))
