Description

Marulli et al studied patients with primary chondrosarcoma of the chest wall. They identified prognostic factors affecting overall survival for these patients. The authors are from University of Padova, IRCCS Istiuto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, Azienda Ospedaliera San Camillo Forlanini in Rome and University Hospital of Siena in Italy.

Patient selection: primary chondrosarcoma of the chest wall

Predictors for a better survival from multivariate analysis:

(1) age <= 55 years

(2) diameter <= 6 cm

(3) negative surgical margins (R0)

(4) well-differentiated histology (G1)

Well-differentiated tumors also had a lower recurrence rate.

Wide margins of excision are preferred if possible.
