Description

Laskar et al evaluated patients with primary diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) of the tonsil. These can help identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Tate Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India.

Prognostic factors identified on multivariate analysis:

(1) WHO performance scale

(2) B symptoms (fever, night sweats, weight loss)

Interpretation:

• minimum number of poor prognostic factors: 0

• maximum number of poor prognostic factors: 2

Additional factors affecting outcome:

(1) tumor bulk (diameter <= 7 cm better than > 7 cm)

(2) Ann Arbor Stage (I or II better than III or IV)

(3) combination chemotherapy and radiotherapy (optimally >= 45 Gy)
