Ho et al reported prognostic factors for a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma. The authors are from multiple institutions in Taiwan.
Patient selection: adult with hepatocellular carcinoma
Predictors of worse prognosis:
(1) age > 65 years
(2) male sex
(3) serum alpha-fetoprotein > 20 ng/mL
(4) large (> 3 cm) or multiple tumors
(5) tumor volume > 100 cc
(6) vascular invasion or distant metastases
(7) ascites
(8) poor performance status (ECOG >=2)
(9) EZ-ALBI grade 2 or 3
The presence of multiple predictors is associated with a worse prognosis.
