Grimal et al identified prognostic factors associated with megacystis diagnosed in utero.
Criteria for megacystis in a fetus - one or both of the following:
(1) largest bladder diameter in first trimester >= 7 mm
(2) large bladder that does not empty after 45 minutes during second or third trimester
Causes may include:
(1) idiopathy megacystis
(2) posterior urethral valves
(3) transient megacystis
(4) complex uropathy
