Description

Fossa et al identified prognostic factors affecting survival for patients with testicular cancer. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive or novel therapies. The authors are from the University of Oslo and the University of Rochester.

Outcome: cancer-specific survival

General factors associated with worse survival:

(1) age >= 40 years

(2) metastatic disease

(3) unmarried

(4) failure to perform a retroperitoneal lymph node dissection

Additional factors in patients with nonseminomas

(1) nonwhite race

(2) lower socioeconomic status
