Ferrari et al reported prognostic factors for a woman with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva (VSCC). These can help to identify a woman who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from SpedaliCivili of Brescia and University of Brescia in Italy.
Patient selection: woman with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva
Outcome: 5-year overall survival
Prognostic factors from multivariate analysis:
(1) perineural invasion (PNI, HR 2.74 for early recurrence; HR 4.93 for overall survival)
(2) extracapsular lymph node disease (HR 13.5 for early recurrence; HR 10.6 for overall survival)
where:
• Early recurrence reflects short disease-free survival.
