Description

Charlier et al reported prognostic features for a patient with listeriosis. This can help to identify a patient who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in France participating in the MONALISA Study Group.

Patient selection: listeriosis

Predictors of mortality in patients with bacteremia:

(1) ongoing cancer (odds ratio 5.2)

(2) multi-organ failure (odds ratio 8.0)

(3) aggravation of a pre-existing organ dysfunction (odds ratio 4.4)

(4) monocytopenia (absolute monocyte count < 200 per µL; odds ratio 3.7)

Predictors of mortality in patients with neurolisteriosis:

(1) ongoing cancer (odds ratio 5.2)

(2) multi-organ failure (odds ratio 8.0)

(3) aggravation of a pre-existing organ dysfunction (odds ratio 4.4)

(4) monocytopenia (absolute monocyte count < 200 per µL; odds ratio 3.7)

(5) positive blood culture (odds ratio 3.7)

(6) therapy with dexamethasone (odds ratio 4.6)
