Description

Chacon et al identified prognostic factors for patients with splenic marginal zone lymphoma. The authors are from the Hospital Virgen de le Salud in Toledo, Spain.

Patients with bone marrow involvement were less likely to obtain a complete remission to therapy.

Overall survival and disease free survival were higher with both of the following:

(1) complete response to therapy (no evidence of residual disease)

(2) involvement of only hematopoietic sites (no involvement of a nonhematopoietic site)

Hematopoietic sites (from page 1649):

(1) spleen

(2) liver

(3) bone marrow

(4) lymph nodes

Additional prognostic factors for overall survival found on univariate analysis:

(1) ECOG score 0-1

(2) p53 negative (not overexpressed)
