Description

Bastug et al identified prognostic factors for a patient with Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). This can help to identify a patient on hospital admission who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital in Ankara, Turkey.

Patient selection: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever

Outcome: mortality

Parameters on hospital admission:

(1) leukocyte count per µL

(2) aPTT in seconds

(3) serum LDH concentration in IU/L

(4) serum ALT concentration in IU/L

= SUM(points for the 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 4

• The higher the scores the greater the risk of mortality. The odds ratios ranged from 7.3 to 11.7.

Performance:

• The cutoffs may need to be modified for different instruments and methods.
