Description

Ambrosi et al reported factors associated with mortality in a civilian with a gunshot wound to the head. The authors are from Hospital of Restauracao in Recife, Brazil.


Patient selection: civilian with gunshot wound to the head

 

Predictors of in-hospital mortality:

(1) age > 40 years of age

(2) unilateral dilatation of a pupil

(3) Glagow coma scale <= 8 on admission

(4) intracranial hematoma

(5) respiratory infection

 

The risk of death increases with the number of risk factors present.
