Problems that can occur in the home medicine cabinet:
(1) retention of expired medications
(2) contamination with other materials
(3) access by children
(4) stealing of opiates or other drugs that can be abused
(5) deterioration secondary to heat
(6) deterioration secondary to humidity
(7) deterioration by sunlight
(8) deterioration by failure to refrigerate
(9) deterioration after removal of medications from protective container
(10) placing a drug in a different container (unlabeled, mislabeled, etc)
(11) look-alike containers
(12) failure to locate due to disorganization
(13) have drugs been placed together that could interact with each other
(14) has a liquid medicine become overgrown with bacteria or fungi
