Description

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are a reportable, and public health officials may directly or indirectly contact partners of the reported patient. This may be more difficult that it might appear at first.


 

Problems in contacting a sexual partner:

(1) There may be a delay before reaching the person, with increased risk of further spread.

(2) The source person may be unwilling to notify or identify the person.

(3) The source person may be unable to identify the person (if intoxicated, in an orgy, anonymous, other).

(4) The contact may not be locatable.

(5) The contact may not present for evaluation treatment (lack of symptoms, denial, other).

(6) The source may not recognize a contact as being at risk.
