Description

The Multi-Society Task Force provided data showing outcome of patients in the persistent vegetative state (PVS) at 12 months from onset. This can help determine the chances for recovery in a patient. The authors are from the American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Pediatrics and 3 other neurological societies.

Parameters:

(1) adult vs child

(2) traumatic vs nontraumatic (degenerative, metabolic or developmental malformation)

(3) duration of PVS (3 months vs 6 months)
