Description

Calabrese and Mallek listed criteria for the diagnosis of Primary Angiitis of the Central Nervous System (PACNS). The authors are from the Cleveland Clinic.


 

Requirement: a complete and thorough evaluation of the patient (clinical, laboratory, etc)

 

Criteria for the diagnosis of PACNS - all of the following:

(1) presence of unexplained neurologic deficit(s)

(2) presence of an arteritic process in the CNS documented by one or both of the following:

(2a) cerebral angiography

(2b) histologic evidence on biopsy

(3) exclusion of other explanations

(3a) no evidence of a systemic vasculitis

(3b) no evidence of any other condition that can explain the findings
