Bleach is a dilute solute of sodium hypochlorite. It is a strong oxidizing agent and corrosive. It may be diluted for a variety of purposes such as surface decontamination.
Active ingredient: sodium hypochlorite (NaClO)
Molecular weight: 74.4 grams
The concentration of household bleach ranges from 3% to 6% (referred to as "ultra") in grams per 100 mL (grams per dL)
This starting solution may be further diluted for a variety of purposes. A common dilution used for surface decontamination is a 10% (1 part in 10).
For example, a 5% bleach solution diluted 1 in 10 has 0.5% sodium hypochlorite.
