Description

The Albumin-Indocyanine Green Evaluation (ALICE) Grade provides information about residual hepatic function prior to surgery. This can help determine the risk of certain postoperative complications. The authors are from multiple institutions in Japan, Switzerland and England.

Parameters:

(1) indocyanine green retention rate at 15 minutes (ICG R15), in percent

(2) serum albumin concentration in g/L

linear predictor =

= (0.663 * LOG10(ICG R15)) - (0.0718 * (albumin))

Linear Predictor

ALICE Grade

<= - 2.2

1

-2.2 to -1.88

2a

-1.88 to -1.39

2b

> - 1.39

3

The higher the grade the worse the overall survival.

Additional prognostic factors for a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma:

(1) macroscopic vascular invasion

(2) presence of satellite nodules

(3) R1 or R2 resection
