Description

Prehospital end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) can be predictive of outcome for a trauma patient.

Patient selection: trauma patient

Measurement: end-tidal CO2 in mm Hg or kPa

A high or rising ETCO2 is associated with survival.

Favorable ETCO2: >=30 mm Hg

A low or declining ETCO2 is associated with nonsurvival.

Unfavorable ETCO2: < 25 mm Hg
