Description

Zhang et al reported 3 risk factors associated with graft failure after primary medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction. These can help to identify a patient at greater risk prior to the surgery. The authors are from Beijing Jishuitan Hospital.

Patient selection: primary medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFL-R) with graft

Predictors of graft failure:

(1) tibiofemoral rotation angle >= 12.3 degrees (OR 13.2)

(2) preoperative high-grade (Grade 3) J-sign (OR 7.7)

(3) femoral tunnel malposition (OR 7.0; measurement shown in Figure 4)

Excessive tibiofemoral rotation angle has a sensitivity of 82% and specificity of 89% for graft failure.
