Description

Yee et al identified predictors for inadequate bowel preparation for colonoscopy. The authors are from the University of British Columbia and Victoria General Hospital in Canada,


Outcome: inadequate bowel preparation (fecal matter present, may or may not be able to detect all polyps greater than 5 mm in diameter)

 

fair with fecal matter but able to find all polyps greater than 5 mm; poor with fecal matter is inability to detect all polyps greater than 5 mm)

 

Predictors for an inadequate preparation:

(1) history of stroke or dementia

(2) opioid use

(3) male gender

(4) therapy with calcium channel blocker

(5) therapy with an antidepressant
