Description

Yang et al reported predictors for surgical site infection (SSI) following fasciotomy for acute leg compartment syndrome. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Hebei Medical University and affiliated institutions in China.

Patient selection: status post fasciotomy for acute leg compartment syndrome

Predictors for surgical site infection:

(1) body mass index (BMI, OR 1.2), with risk when BMI >= 24.7 kg per square meter

(2) open fracture (OR 3.7)

(3) smoking history (OR 4.2, presumably recent)

The risk increases with the number of predictors present.
