Watanabe et al identified risk factors for in-hospital mortality for a patient with acute myocardial infarction and triple vessel disease (TVD). The authors are from Jichi Medical Center in Saitama, Japan.
Patient selection: status post acute myocardial infarction AND triple vessel disease (TVD)
Predictors of in-hospital death:
(1) shock (OR 11.5; systolic blood pressure < 90 mm Hg or vasopressors required)
(2) AMI in the distribution of the left anterior descending artery (OR 3.8)
(3) low serum albumin (OR 0.26 per g/dL)
The risk of in-hospital mortality increased with the number of predictors present.
