Seoudy et al reported predictors for mortality following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). These can help to identify a patient who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Heidelberg University and the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research in Germany.
Patient selection: transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for aortic stenosis
Predictors for all-cause mortality within 1 year:
(1) HFA-PEFF score 5 or 6 (diagnostic for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction; HR 2.6)
(2) male gender (HR 2.0)
(3) COPD (HR 2.2)
These were also predictive of all-cause mortality or heart failure rehospitalization after TAVI.
A Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) score >= 4% had an HR of 1.7 but p 0.082.
