Real et al identified factors associated with hospital readmission. These include a measure for nutritional risk and a measure of muscle mass. The authors are from Universidade Catolica de Pelotas in Brazil.


Patient selection: hospital patient > 18 years old

 

Outcome: 30-day hospital readmission

 

Predictors of readmission:

(1) Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) >= 3 (odds ratio 3.3)

(2) presence of cancer (odds ratio 4.5)

(3) nutrition risk by PG-SGA (Patient Generated Subjective Global Assessment; score >=9; odds ratio 9.5)

(4) low calf circumference (< 34 cm for male; < 33 cm for female; odds ratio 3.9)
