Description

Oldrini et al reported predictors for fracture in a patient with shoulder dislocation. This can help to identify a patient who may warrant a closer evaluation. The authors are from the University of Warwick, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and University of Oxford.

Patient selection: shoulder dislocation

Predictors of fracture:

(1) age > 40 years

(2) female sex

(3) first-time shoulder dislocation (

(4) presence of humeral ecchymosis

(5) high risk mechanism of injury (high-energy fall, fall > 1 flight of stairs, motor vehicle accident)
