Description

Nuzzo et al reported factors predictive of irreversible transmural intestinal necrosis (ITIN) in a patient with acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI). These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple hospitals in France.

Patient selection: acute mesenteric ischemia

Predictors:

(1) organ failure (HR 3.1)

(2) serum lactate concentration > 2 mmol/L (HR 4.1)

(3) bowel loop dilation on abdominal CT scan (HR 2.6)
