Description

Lufti et al reported predictors for delayed engraftment following autologous hematopoietic cell transplant. The authors are from the University of Maryland, Moffitt Cancer Center, and University of Florida.

Patient selection: receipt of an autologous hematopoietic cell transplant

Criteria for delayed engraftment - one or more of the following:

(1) platelet count <= 50,000 per microliter

(2) hemoglobin <= 8 g/dL

(3) absolute neutrophil count <= 1,000 per microliter

Non-Hodgkins lymphoma was associated with a high rate of delayed engraftment.

Predictors of delayed engraftment:

(1) transfusion dependence prior to transplant

(2) low-infused CD34+cell dose (< 3 * 10^6 per kg)

(3) low pre-transplant platelet count (< 150,000 per microliter)

(4) maintenance therapy
