Description

Gupta et al reported predictors for mortality for a patient with pulmonary sarcoidosis on the waiting list for a lung transplant. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from early transplant. The authors are from Temple University, Cleveland Clinic and St. Luke's University Health Network.

Patient selection: advanced pulmonary sarcoidosis

Predictors for mortality:

(1) female sex (OR 2.5)

(2) severe pulmonary hypertension (OR 1.6)

Factors associated with a lower risk of mortality:

(1) blood Group B (OR 0.5)

(2) taller minimum donor height (OR 0.6; 145.4 +/-14.4 cm vs 141.9 +/- 14.4 cm)

where:

• The minimum donor height was based on the recipient's thoracic dimensions.

• The height range was 131-159.8 cm for thos transplanted and 127.5-156.3 cm for those who died.
