Choi et al reported factors predictive of early recurrence of atrial fibrillation. A patient who has early recurrence after electrical cardioversion may require more effective therapy, The authors are from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul.
Patient selection: atrial fibrillation controlled by electrical cardioversion
Outcome: early recurrence of atrial fibrillation (within 2 months)
Parameters:
(1) maximum P-wave duration in limb leads in milliseconds
(2) P-terminal force in V1 in ms*mm (product of the amplitude in mm to the duration of terminal phase in ms)

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 2
If the patient does have an early recurrence, then a more effective rhythm control method (catheter ablation, rate control) should be favored over repeat electrical cardioversion.
Performance:
• A model using both factors has an area under the ROC curve os 0.814.
