Description

Chen et al identified factors associated with successful placement of a nasoenteric feeding tube. The authors are from multiple institutions in China

Outcome: successful placement of a nasoenteric feeding tube

Predictors of successful nasoenteric tube placement:

(1) use of prokinetic agents (odds ratio 4.1)

(2) not using vasopressors (odds ratio 2.3)

(3) APACHE II score < 20 (odds ratio 1.9)

(4) not using sedatives or analgesics (odds ratio 1.5)

The chances of successfully placing a nasoenteric feeding tube increases with the number of predictors present.
