Predictors of Capella et al for the Behavior of an Endocrine Tumor of the Stomach

The behavior of an endocrine tumor of the stomach can be predicted based on a number of clinical and pathologic features.

Parameter	Benign (Indolent)	Aggressive
histologic depth	mucosa and submucosa	muscularis propria or beyond
angioinvasion	absent	present
diameter in cm	<= 1 cm	> 1 cm
clinical factors	nonfunctioning; functioning with syndrome (see below)	functioning and sporadic
differentiation	well-differentiated	poorly differentiated (small cell undifferentiated) carcinoma

Syndrome:

(1) autoimmune chronic atrophic gastritis

(2) Zollinger Ellison syndrome

(3) MEN-1 (with or without Zollinger-Ellison syndrome)
