Bertoncelli et al al reported predictors for the placement of a gastrostomy tube in an adolescent with cerebral palsy and developmental disorders. The authors are from multiple institutions in Europe.


Patient selection: cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities

 

Outcome: gastrostomy placement

 

Predictors from multivariate analysis:

(1) poor motor function

(2) epilepsy

(3) male gender

 

Additional factors from univariate analysis that may favor placement:

(1) trunk muscle tone disorder

(2) severe neuromuscular scoliosis
