Description

Beck et al evaluated the impact of various risk factors on 1-year mortality after elective repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. This can help to decide if repair and what kind of repair may benefit the patient. The authors are from Darmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and the Maine Medical Center in Portland.


Patient selection: elective open or endovascular (EVAR) repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm

 

Predictors of 1-year mortality after open AAA repair:

(1) age >= 70 years

(2) history of COPD

(3) chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) with serum creatinine concentration >= 1.8 mg/dL

(4) suprarenal aortic clamp site (SRC)
