Annamalai identified predictors for mortality for patients with cirrhosis in the intensive care unit (ICU). These include the MELD score as well as other measure of organ failure. The authors are from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Patient selection: cirrhosis in ICU
Outcome: mortality
Parameters:
(1) MELD (10-fold modification)
(2) CRRT (continous renal replacement therapy)
(3) vasopressors
(4) mechanical ventilation

Interpretation:
• minimum cumulative odds ratio: 1
• maximum cumulative odds ratio: around 500
• The higher the score the greater the mortality.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.87.
• The MELD score alone was less predictive.
