Description

Abdel-Razeq et al reported risk factors for venous thromboembolism in a patient with a testicular germ cell tumor. The authors are from King Hussein Cancer Center, University of Jordon and Istishari Hospital in Jordan.

Patient selection: testicular germ cell tumor

Risk factors for venous thromboembolism:

(1) lymph node metastases

(2) metastases to distant sites

(3) high serum LDH concentration

(4) multiple lines of chemotherapy

where:

• The risk factors are associated with high tumor burden.

• Lines of chemotherapy is ambiguous. It may mean courses of chemotherapy, or going to second-line chemotherapy. The usage indicates salvage therapy.

The risk of venous thromboembolism increases with the number of risk factors present.
