Description

The Dutch TIA Trial Study Group reported predictors for future stroke or cardiac event in a patient presenting with a TIA or minotr stroke.


Patient selection: TIA or nondisabling/minor stroke

 

Outcome: stroke or cardiovascular event within 2 years

 

Predictors:

(1) age > 65 years

(2) male sex

(3) dysarthria

(4) multiple attacks

(5) diabetes

(6) angina pectoris

(7) intermittent claudication

(8) CT evidence of any cerebral infarct, especially border zone infarct or white matter hypodensity

(9) ECG changes (anteroseptal infarct, left ventricular hypertrophy, left atrial conduction delay)

 

Protective factors:

(1) monocular attack (TIA)

(2) presence of rotatory dizziness
