Suphathamwit et al reported a score for immediate extubation after liver transplant surgery. The authors are from Mahidol University and Siriaj Hospital in Bangkok.
Parameters:
(1) packed red blood cell transfusion volume in mL
(2) MELD score
(3) inotropes needed at the end of operation

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 5
• A score of 5 predicts safe immediate extubation.
• A patient who could not be immediately extubated is at risk for a range of postoperative complications.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.78.
• A score of 5 had a sensitivity of 0.61 and specificity of 0.80 for safe extubation.
• A score >= 4 had a sensitivity of 0.87 and specificity of 0.54.
