Poottasane et al reported a simple score based on blood count parameters to identify a patient with fever who may be infected with dengue. The authors are from Thammasat University in Thailand.
Patient selection: acute fever, presumably in a region where dengue is found
Parameters:
(1) white blood cell count in 10^9/L
(2) platelet count in 10^9/L
(3) monocyte distribution width (MDW) in percent

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 3
• A score >= 1 had a sensitivity of sensitivity of 0.92 and specificity of 0.41 in the training cohort.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve was 0.84 for the training and 0.74 in the validation cohorts.
