Description

Ninokawa et al evaluated the ratio of serum potassium to ionized calcium for the prognosis of a trauma patient with severe hemorrhage. They created a decision tree for outcomes. The authors are from Tulane University, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Suez Canal University.

Patient selection: trauma with severe hemorrhage and trauma protocol activation within 1 hour at a major trauma center

Parameters:

(1) serum potassium in mmol/L

(2) serum ionized calcium in mmol/L

(3) age of the patient in years

(4) ISS

(5) shock index
