Description

Donadio et al used the plasma creatinine and body composition analysis by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to calculate a patient's creatinine clearance. The authors are from the University of Pisa.

Parameters:

(1) plasma creatinine in mg/dL

(2) body weight in kilograms

(3) 24-hour urine creatinine in mg estimated from fat free mass (FFM)

(4) 24-hour urine creatinine in mg estimated from body cell mass (BCM)

Male

Female

24 hour urine creatinine in mg based on FFM

25.6 mg per kg FFM +/- 3.8

22.5 mg per kg FFM +/- 3.8

24 hour urine creatinine in mg based on BCM

51.9 mg per kg BCM +/- 5.9

48.1 mg per kg BCM +/- 8.0

creatinine clearance by FFM =

= (24 hour urine creatinine in mg per kg FFM) * (FFM in kg) / ((plasma creatinine) / 100 * 1440)

creatinine clearance by FFM =

= (24 hour urine creatinine in mg per kg BCM) * (BCM in kg) / ((plasma creatinine) / 100 * 1440)

where:

Division of plasma creatinine by 100 is to convert from mg per dL to mg per mL.
