Description

The risk for relapse in patients with acute brucellosis can be predicted using factors identified after multivariate analysis. Patients at increased risk for relapse may be candidates for more prolonged or intensive therapy. This study was performed in Spain.

Independent risk factors for relapse:

(1) temperature >= 38.3°C

(2) positive blood cultures at baseline

(3) duration of symptoms before treatment < 10 days

risk score =

= SUM(number of risk factors present)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 3
